The NOTL Ukesters are a group of local uke players and singers that meet weekly for a uke workshop. All skill levels from absolute beginner to advanced performer are welcomed and encouraged to attend. Weekly workshops are held Sunday from 4-5pm at the NOTL Community Centre. A typical session starts with a few minutes of strumming warm-up, a review of selected tunes from our repertoire for 20 minutes or so. We listen to, perform and write filk, that is, music that has its roots in fantasy and science fiction. Every year we spend a weekend in a hotel in Mississauga singing, listening, making friends and having a great deal of fun. The rest of the year, we get together for music circles, often in people's homes, and occasional concerts and other get-togethers. All skill levels, music styles and acoustic instruments welcome.
